About PhoenixF1re

PhoenixF1re started this conversation

Hi everybody. I am a single mother to a beautiful son who is about to turn 12 in October. My story is sadly similar to so many that I have read. My thoughts go out to everyone out there caught up in this horrible RECESSION!!!

I worked very hard as a single mom to attain my degree, which I finally did in 2003. While in school, I worked 2 jobs.

I landed a great job where my son and I did great. I put him in catholic school and finally was able to get my own place after having lived in a shelter for almost a year.

Thanks to some bad investments within our company, my department downsized and I was laid off. Back to the struggle again. In all honesty, I just need help with this month's rent and one month of tuition for my son (Grand Total of $5,000..NY Rents suck..), who is a straight A student. I applied for all benefits available (still waiting on the food stamp card, not a lot of food in the house and my Unemployment disqualified me for Emergency funds) for my son and I. I have several interviews lined up and my resume is impressive, but the job market is horrible. I have also registered at many temp agencies in the city.

If anyone out there, knows of any other resources or places I can go to, trust me I will scrap the money for a Metrocard and go. I just need to know that we have the roof over our head and my son can go to school for the month of September. Thanks again and I wish all of you luck.

Hi Phoenix! :)

I love the background on your page - is it one of your works?

Elaine of TSA recommended you as a graphic artist.

I've been looking for a graphic designer to help with this comic strip project I've been working on: http://www.woohooligan.com

I illustrate and I can do some design, but it's not my forte. My skills are mostly technical and the comic project is something I'm working on to help deal with a disability I have. If you're interested in helping out I can offer to split the CafePress commissions with you. I wanted to make sure you understood up front that I've had the store for over a year and although I have made some sales, it's not paying for itself yet (it costs $7/mo to maintain, so it's not bad in terms of expense). So there's no guarantee that you would see any income from it immediately. However if you enjoy the cartoons and have some spare time to help out, I think having a better design on the site would go a long way toward improving sales and I'd love to help you out as well. :)

Either way, you're obviously a go-getter, you're on the right track and I'm wishing you the best of luck! :)

Thanks Phoenix!

We are surviving and still fighting as much as we can. Just prayin that a job will call my husband soon. He might have to search even wider but the gas is hell over here.

Thank you Elaine. I take that as a complement as you yourself have blessed this community with your insight, resources and most importantly the gift of your faith. I am thankful that I came across this site and I plan to stick around to help in anyway I can.

Thanks again

Dear PhoenixF1re, There is no doubt in my mind, that like the Phoenix, you too could rise from the ashes. You possess a great deal of inner strength and resourcefulness and have attempted to empower others with the information you have shared here. There is no greater gift you can give than teaching one to fish and be self sufficient. Welcome aidmate.

Thanks honey. I got the job...woo-hoo!!!!

I love to help when I can. If I were blessed like a Trump, no one on here would have problems, trust me. I have struggled in life and when things got better, something else would get thrown right back at me. Just got to suck it up I guess.

But hard knocks taught me that you can't be angry or take it out on others. You are not going to get hand-outs and fairy tales don't always have happy endings. That's life unfortunately.

But I will always be here and if I can help anyone in a right path, that's what I need to do. Give hugs to the kids. Thanks a lot mate!!!

Good luck to you on your interview. I hope you get the job and life improves for you and your son. (Good looking boy you have.) I have 3 boys, 3 girls. Kids are the best part of life. You demonstrate ta genuine concern for others. Not only in words, but in true support of their needs. (Action is better than reaction.) One of my favorite Aussie expressions: Good onya mate! Seems to fit you well. And I'd like to thank you for making my experience here, a better one. Please take care.

My phone interview went great today and I got called in for a face to face tomorrow. I guess they liked me. I knocked down my salary expectation a lot. But right now, people are very wary on giving a high salary once they hire you. I'll just go for the year end bonus..lol.

Well wish me luck the interview is at 4. I'll keep you posted.

My rant of the day...I'm a bit bitter because I'm tired...

If you are looking for hand outs, NOTHING in life is free. Advice is ALWAYS free.

This place is a good place. I'm not religious, I'm a Wiccan. But I feel if someone is taking the time to offer you even a prayer be grateful, they don't have to you know. They are giving you a bit of their faith as a gift.

Like I said I am a wiccan and as you can see I can't cast a spell to make things better, because the power to make things better comes from within and is strengthed by your faith whether it be God, a goddess, Buddha...you get the point.

Remember before you moan about what you don't have, think about the baby getting thrown in a garbage or the kid getting beat to death by someone who is supposed to protect them. Think about the single mom who has no food in the fridge and the kids are crying to her because they are hungry.

Life is crazy, but beautiful it molds the spirit and makes it stronger...think about that.

Amen,Amen,Amen;

I totally agree!

I don't understand why keep having them when one cannot afford them.  They stress themselves out when they cannot afford to care for them, then want to stress 'others' out wanting 'others' to 'pay' for the expenses of their children.  I just don't understand this.
